City Harvest “Food Rescue” Program

6 Aug

Here at The e-Den, you expect to hear about Music, Radio Theatre, and Wolf Rescue. But in looking for a good cause in which to “give back”, we found City Harvest (Food Rescue).     So many restaurants throw away perfectly good food, right in front of people (often employees) who cannot afford to eat there and may be on foodstamps themselves.
Here’s more info from the City Harvest website;

City Harvest helps feed the nearly two million people who face hunger each year.

  • Rescues some 126,000 pounds of food each day.
  • Regularly give food to more than 500 community programs.
  • It costs City Harvest just 24 cents to rescue and deliver a pound of food.

In our first month, City Harvest served 55 community food programs in New York City. Today we help feed people at more than 500 programs. Our goal is to grow our operations to address the demand for emergency food.
