Carver Birthplace Association in co-operation with the Community Foundation of the Ozarks has started a fundraising effort to raise $8,000 to replace the roof on the Neosho Carver Schoolhouse. The Schoolhouse has been placed on the National Historic Preservation list.

Carver trivia: Mariah Watkins, who housed Carver while at the Neosho MO school, was later the nanny of Thomas Hart Benton, “America’s First Great Painter.”
